Description

You are invited to an informal introduction to the AIEN in Melbourne on Thursday 24th November 2016. There will be drinks and nibbles, which won't cost you a thing!

We are pleased to announce that Gary Foster from Edge Environment will give a brief presentation on ‘The Development of Collaborative Innovation & Sustainability in Business’– an International and Australian perspective.

Gary has a rich background in business and environmental sustainability having enjoyed various technical and managerial roles over the last two decades with leading organisations in Australia, UK and internationally. During his recent 6 1/2 years with a major global design & engineering consultancy, he was both a practitioner and latterly regional director of the award-winning national industrial symbiosis programme (NISP). Now applying his skills in the Australian market, he sees huge opportunity in Australia for embracing industrial ecology and the principles of the circular economy.

Gary's presentation will address the following topics:

  • Drivers/the need – Population/affluence (number of people and demand) and resources (cost and availability)
  • The pioneers - examples of Industrial Symbiosis and Ecology
  • The Circular Economy
  • The Sharing Economy
  • Insights from the last decade of experience
  • Future issues and opportunities
  • How might this impact upon/benefit Victoria

In addition to the presentation and networking, we will discuss topics and activities that might be developed by the AIEN in the future, as part of the company's charter. For example, synopses of four topics that have been identified as areas of particular interest to members are available on the AIEN website.

Organised by

The Australian Industrial Ecology Network (AIEN) is a vibrant network of like-minded individuals, companies and institutions with a common interest in sustainable development through the study and practice of industrial ecology.

We advocate the principles and concepts of industrial ecology in policy formation and business practice. The AIEN actively engages with organisations to facilitate improved performance and environmental benefits.

The AIEN is also a forum in which people can discuss ideas, seek advice from one another or simply keep in touch through the network with developments and best practice in their particular areas of interest.
